Small in size but extraordinary in detail, this 4" Haitian Metal Heart is handmade and hand tooled by skilled artisans in Haiti.
The piece begins as recycled steel from an oil drum. Using simple hand tools, the artisan cuts, hammers, embosses, and chisels the metal to create the elaborate design. A dimensional heart sits at the center, surrounded by raised dots, curling scrollwork, detailed leaves, and flame-like forms.
The ornate design is reminiscent of traditional Sacred Heart and Milagro folk art, symbols often associated with love, devotion, gratitude, hope, and protection.
Look closely and you can see the marks of the artisan's hand throughout the piece. Because each heart is individually made, slight variations in tooling and finish are part of its handmade beauty.
